Rock of Ages Hit The Musical Based on the Hit Movie
Rock of Ages is a very popular award winning stage musical that is based on the movie which featured Tom Cruise in the lead roll (as seen below in the Movie trailer, not the stage show. There are number of subtle and important differences between the movie and the stage show version. These have been made to ensure that the main story can transfer successfully from the big screen to the stage. However the trailer will give you a very good idea of what to expect and experience at the Lowry Theatre.
It has been successfully adapted for the stage but retains the original plot line and characters. The stage musical features iconic rock-out anthems from the film, tracks made many famous by many 80’s rock groups such as rock legends Aerosmith and Bon Jovi.
The Rock of Ages story summary
“It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980’s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where rock god sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality.
Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall.
Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it’s too late? Only the music of hit rock bands Styx, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Poison, and more hold the answer.” – READ MORE?
A local musical theatre company have successfully got the rights to perform their version of this total thrash-out rock-fest at the world famous Lowry Theatre in Salford. We believe that they are the first armature group to get the licence to perform it in the UK, so it’s a first and an exclusive. They have graced the Lowry stage many times before with other successful productions such as Boogie Nights in 2015 and now it’s the turn of Rock of Ages.
It will contain all the glitz and the glamour of the original and will adhere strictly to the original theatre story-line. At times loud and powerful and other seedy and sensual. Any musical theatre company can’t afford to hold back when it comes to this rock musical, they need to throw everything at it.
